Thambani Forest Reserve is found in Southern Malawi, Mwanza District, Traditional Authorities Nthache and Govati.

Thambani Forest Reserve is an important catchment area for perennial rivers such as Namitembe, Tsupe, Mngona, Muwale, and Mkuntche. These rivers provide water which is used for domestic consumption and irrigation. There are three gravity-fed schemes (Thambani, Kalanga, and Kunkhoma) supplying water from the reserve for home use to seventeen villages in Traditional Authorities (TAs) Govati and Nthache. A total of 2,221 households benefit from the schemes.
