Malawi has been used as a conduit for illegal wildlife trade for a long time because of to its weak wildlife regulation.  The Department of National Parks and Wildlife in Malawi revised its the National and Wildlife Act in 2018 to align it with neighbouring countries and deter illegal wildlife traffickers.
