Biodiversity plays a central role in supporting Malawi’s economy and the well-being of its
people. Ecosystems underpin agriculture, fisheries, forestry, energy, and tourism, and they
provide food, water, raw materials, cultural identity, and climate buffering services.
This Monitoring and Evaluation frameworks describes the information system that Malawi will use to guide monitoring and evaluation activities. Strengthening
national biodiversity monitoring systems will contribute to the achievement of a number of
other national strategies, in particular the Malawi Vision 2063 and the global development
policies the Sustainable Development Goals, and the NBSAP III. The monitoring framework
hence makes a direct contribution to these aspirations, and strengthens allied strategies towards
biodiversity protection, a Malawi 2063 target.
